Managing Pain in the Setting of Co-morbid Substance Use Disorder

Webinar Description
The purpose of this session is to provide guidance to improve clinical management of acute and chronic pain in individuals with substance use disorder.
Clinicians are challenged daily with managing both acute and chronic pain in individuals with substance use disorder. The presenters will describe the challenges and opportunities to manage pain in this population both in the acute care environment and in the ambulatory environment. Using a case based approach the presenter will describe options for managing both acute and chronic pain for patients taking methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone for treatment of opioid use disorder as well as those who are still engaged in substance use and those in remission, not currently taking medications.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:
Develop treatment strategies to treat acute and chronic pain in individuals with opioid use disorder receiving medications for opioid use disorder.
Discuss pain management strategies for individuals with pain who are currently engaged in illicit substance use.
Describe challenges in pain management strategies for individuals with substance use disorder in remission not utilizing medications for opioid use disorder.
