Webinar Description:

This webinar aims to offer a comprehensive update on kratom, a botanical increasingly prevalent among the US population. There is a significant knowledge gap concerning the intersection of its purported therapeutic benefits and associated risks, including the potential for overdose and addiction. Understanding the current literature on kratom’s use as a harm reduction tool by those with opioid addiction, as well as the toxicities associated with available kratom products in the United States, is crucial. Additionally, we will explore the risk of developing kratom addiction and strategies for effective management. Clinicians will gain the necessary knowledge to engage in informed discussions with kratom users and implement evidence-based treatment approaches for those who develop addiction.

Educational Objectives:

  • Understand kratom’s literature, covering its uses, risks (overdose, addiction), and product toxicities.
  • Evaluate kratom’s role in harm reduction, distinguishing between evidence-based practices and misconceptions.
  • Implement evidence-based treatments for kratom addiction, facilitating informed discussions and effective interventions with patients.
