Presenter: Heather Momberg, DNP (Blackfeet): UCLA

With more than a decade of health care experience, Heather's career began as a labor and delivery nurse which inspired her to advocate for access to MAT services for pregnant people and familites. She uses tribal best practices to combat the opioid crisis in American Indian communities.

To promote cultural identity for Native American patients seeking recovery or those interested in maintaining sobriety, Heather has supported Indifenous langugae revitalization and culturally centered care resources as part of integrated treatment options. 

Heather received a doctorate her nursing practice from Arizona State University's Edson College of Nursing in 2020.

 

Presentation Overview

This webinar will identify goals for maternal health, describe perinatal care concepts and causes of pregnancy-related deaths among the AI/AN population, educate on risk assessment tools used in perinatal care and culturally adapted resources available to guide AI/AN perinatal care.

This webinar also features a share out by Charlene Ramirez, DNP (Blackfeet). Dr. Ramirez has worked with Indigenous patients and communities throughout her career. As an assistant clinical professor at Montana State University in the College of Nursing, she works with pregnant people adducted to opioids and developed committees that ensure quality care of pregnant patients and their infants at the Backfeet Community Hospital. She makes sure staff receiveeducation and training to properly care for and support people during and after birth. Additionally, Dr. Ramirez was a coordinator of the Baby Friendly Inititiative that Blackfeet Community Hospital obtained designation in 2014.
