Stephanie Stillwell

Stephanie is registered nurse with a diverse background in the healthcare industry, including pediatric neuropsychiatry, public health nursing, addiction treatment and healthcare consulting. However, her passion is promoting community health & wellness and disease prevention. Stephanie works creatively to bridge the gap between the healthcare system, individuals, and the community. She has facilitated multiple local and statewide coalitions throughout the state of Alaska, actively works to empower individuals and communities to co-create and shift systems that will bring positive change to the health and wellbeing of all Alaskans and beyond. Stephanie is an Anishinaabe woman from Lac la Croix First Nation in Ontario, Canada.

Course Overview

Description: In this session, participants will explore trauma-informed care principles, emphasizing a shift from "What's wrong with you?" to "What happened to you“ During this 60-minute virtual presentation, attendees will learn to integrate trauma informed practices into treatment for substance use disorders. This presentation will cover how to recognize signs of trauma, avoiding re-traumatization, and fostering a healing-oriented environment in the healthcare setting. 

Objectives:

  1. Understand the principles of trauma-informed care and its relevance in healthcare settings.
  2. Identify strategies to implement trauma-informed practices in clinical interactions with patients.
  3. Apply trauma-informed approaches through case scenarios to improve patient outcomes and experiences.
