Substance Use in Pregnancy
Course Overview

About: This hour and a half training is spent discussing how Nurse Case Managers can understand substance use disorders in their patients. 

Learning objectives:

  • Prevalence of substance use during pregnancy
  • Impact of substance use on maternal, fetal and infant health
  • How to ask about substance use during pregnancy

Presenters: Dr. Hinckley is an assistant professor in the Division of Addiction Research, Treatment & Prevention within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who specializes in the management of adolescent substance use disorders and comorbid mental health disorders. His clinical expertise includes management of opioid use disorder, cannabis use disorder, tobacco use disorder, alcohol use disorder, and other substance use disorders, including medication management and integration with psychotherapy. Dr. Hinckley has experiencing implementing treatment for opioid use disorder and other substance use disorders in multiple clinical settings, including emergency department, inpatient medical, inpatient psychiatric, and outpatient treatment programs. He also provides multiple trainings and lectures annually and actively engages in research of substance use in adolescents.
