Substance Use Disorder in the Unhoused Population
Course Overview
About: This 90-minute webinar will explore effective approaches for treating substance use disorder (SUD) among unhoused individuals. Topics will include barriers to care, the role of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), strategies for addressing alcohol and stimulant use disorders, and harm reduction practices. The session will also cover key concerns such as medication safety, diversion prevention, and trauma-informed care. Attendees will gain practical insights to improve engagement, treatment retention, and health outcomes for this vulnerable population.


Learning Objectives: 
  • 1) Introduce Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)-related studies/projects at University of Alabama at Birmington Hospital

    2) Discuss treatment options for alcohol and opioid use disorders

Presenter: Dr. Li Li is a board-certified general psychiatrist and addiction medicine specialist, and an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She has lectured regionally and nationally on addiction and mental health-related topics. Dr. Li has led addiction services at UAB, and has had extensive experiences in evaluating and treating patients with both addiction and psychiatric disorders in settings of inpatient, outpatient, and consultation service.
