Course Overview

About:

This full day conference will be focusing on evidence-based approaches for treating stimulant use disorder and to help spearhead a "system re-haul" in implementing best practices across RI's continuum of care. The aim is to increase RI's effectiveness in managing stimulant use disorder and increase provider confidence and competency to feel like they can effectively engage and treat people with current best practices and effective emergent practices.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand psychostimulants in the overdose epidemic and recognize population disparities.
  2. Recognize signs of stimulant intoxication, overdose (overamping), and withdrawal.
  3. Identify effective evidence-based interventions for acute stimulant intoxication and post-acute care needs for stimulant use disorder.
  4. Increase tools and learn basic principles of de-escalation to promote safety for patients with active stimulant use and their caregivers.
  5. Identify health risks associated with stimulant use and how to apply harm reduction interventions for all.
  6. Assist in developing state priorities to increase access, reduce harm and support evidence-based practices that are effective with diverse populations particularly in high-risk areas.
