ORN Training – Barrier to Care: Substance Use Disorder Stigma
Course Overview

Presenter – Tony Vezina, CADC 1, CRM 2, BSW; Tony is a person in long term recovery currently overseeing a recovery community organization providing peer support, recovery centers, housing and treatment that targets adolescents, young adults, and families. He has experience working with start-up organizations, including culturally specific ones. Tony has extensive experience in non-profit management, leadership development, organizing, and coalition building.

Course description – Provide an overview of substance use disorder stigma and a framework for educating others on this topic.

Course objectives

  1. Overview of stigma towards people who use drugs and negative impacts in healthcare settings.
  2. Provide a framework for destigmatizing substance use disorders in various settings. 
  3. Provide de-stigmatization activity and content examples.
