ORN Training – Contingency Management: Overview
Course Overview


Learning objectives:

  • Participants will be able to understand principles and theories of contingency management enough to describe it to their staff and community.
  • Participants will be able to summarize the research evidence for contingency management in American Indian and Alaska Native communities and the elements of an evidence-based CM program.
  • Participants will be able to apply information learned in this session to develop next steps on how contingency management could be adapted for their community.

Presenters:

Katherine (Kait) Hirchak, PhD, MHPA is a descendant of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health and is also faculty in the Promoting Research Initiatives in Substance Use and Mental Health (PRISM) Collaborative at Washington State University. For 15 years, she has partnered with Tribal communities to enhance health equity and well-being. Dr. Hirchak provides training and technical assistance to culturally center evidence-based interventions for substance use with American Indian and Alaska (AI/AN) communities, with a specific emphasis on contingency management.

Kelsey Bajet, MA, is a Social Scientific Assistant at Washington State University. For almost 4 years, Ms. Bajet has supported communities in implementing contingency management programs that meet SAMHSA requirements and has worked with 10+ American Indian/Alaska Native communities to culturally center contingency management with their communities.
