Module 2: Wound Care Education
Course Overview

Presenter: Jason Bienert, RN, Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN), Senior Research Nurse Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Jason Bienert is a Registered Nurse with over a decade of critical care, nursing leadership, and wound care knowledge with advanced experience focusing on wound care of patients who use drugs. Recently accomplished the successful development and implementation of a novel street level wound care program within a peer led, nonprofit, community-based syringe service harm reduction organization serving two counties in Maryland. Comfortable providing community education, stakeholder updates as well as field level participant education. 

Description: This 1.5-hour virtual training will provide an
opportunity to further your knowledge and
experience regarding wound care intervention for
persons who use drugs (PWUD). This includes an
overview of best practices for screening and
identifying wounds, as well as best practices for
basic wound care intervention that could be
administered by non-medically trained personnel in
the context of routine outreach. Participants will
have the opportunity to engage with experts on
emerging developments in the community.

Learning Objectives: 

- Differentiation between healthy wounds and those requiring treatment

- Basic wound care supplies and how to perform wound care

- Harm reduction strategies to prevent wounds
