Dr. Sarah Spencer

Dr. Spencer is a family practitioner and addiction medicine specialist who has been providing treatment of substance use disorders in rural Alaska for over a decade. She is the volunteer medical director and founding member of Megan’s Place, the first rural syringe access program in Alaska. She also partners with the State of Alaska’s Project HOPE and she currently works at Ninilchik Community Clinic as an Addiction Medicine Physician. 
Learning Objectives
  1. Review the pharmacokinetics of Long-acting Injectable Buprenorphine (LIAB).
  2. Explore LIAB regulatory and logistical issues.
  3. Compare available weekly and monthly formulations.
  4. Develop appropriate LIAB initiation strategies.
  5. Troubleshoot common problems in early treatment .
