Course Overview
Presenter: Carlos Llanes, MD is originally from Laredo, Texas. He earned a degree in Biology from Baylor University. He then moved to Lubbock, Texas where he obtained a medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He completed his Family Medicine residency training at Sovah Health in Danville, Virginia. In his free time, Dr. Llanes enjoys being active outdoors; he enjoys activities such as hiking, running, and gardening. 

Learning Objectives: 

1. To define addiction and substance use disorders

2. To review the epidemiology of substance use in adults and adolescents

3. To review the short- and long-term consequences of substance use

4. To identify the signs and symptoms of intoxication, toxicity, and withdrawal of different substances

5. To highlight the role of prevention and treatment for adolescents with substance use and substance use disorders
