7194-3 Motivational Interviewing: Helping People with IDD Change and Grow
Course Overview

Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how motivational conversations use a guiding vs. a directing approach
  2. Describe the four elements of the mindset and heart-set of MI
  3. Identify at least three key open questions to elicit and strengthen motivation
  4. Explain the 4 tasks that guide motivational conversations
Audience: Developmental Disabilities Staff

Presenter: Ken Kraybill, MSW, Ken has worked at the intersection of healthcare, behavioral health, homelessness and supportive housing for more than 35 years. He is a Senior Trainer for C4 Innovations and has 18 years of direct service experience working as a behavioral health practitioner and supervisor in homeless services. For the past two decades, he has been developing curricula and facilitating in-person and online training nationally in whole-person care practices including motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, trauma-informed supervision, outreach and engagement, recovery support, critical time intervention, and resiliency and renewal for care providers. Ken has an MSW from the University of Washington in Seattle and is also a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
